2011 World class PC Modding

Take a look at the Bit-Tech cream of the crop in PC modding this year.
Things have really advanced beyond the simple led and water cooling modifications of yesteryear.
I've included my personal favorites here, but have a look at the complete list after the break!

Dorkly rules!

Just discovered some hilarious gaming clips produced for the Dorkly channel.
I'm posting my current two favourites, but many more gems are available - the Mortal Kombat and "gaming character X meets his agent " are great too!

Have phun!

The end of the world ?

Well, the end of A world, Star Wars Galaxies to be more precise.
It doesn't happen too often that a "legendary" grand old MMO gets killed off, but that is precisely what is going to happen on 15/12/2011. It will have been running about 8 years by then!

There is one special twist : at the end of that day, you will be able to see who actually won the Intergalactic war (Empire versus Rebels). So go have a look at all the stuff after the break and find out what you'll be missing... forever...

What is better than a free game?

Uhhh, 3 free games of course! And that is just what the open source community around Aleph One has in store for you. But not just any old free game. No, the (semi) official HD remakes of Bungie's Marathon games!
They were the Doom and Duke mirror games on Macintosh. Only played a tiny bit of those but they are very well regarded in the retro community. So go check them out after the break !

There is also online multiplayer in Marathon Infinity !

Back to the "BeeB"

The BBC Micro turns 30 today. I never owned this home computer from the '80s. I was stuck with a ZX81 and then a Sinclair QL (figure that!) but I eagerly followed all the BBC computing programmes on tv (since I lived in just about the only area at the time where you could watch the BBC channels abroad).

Here's a bunch of great articles on what those times were like and how that machine and its rivals influenced the giants of today, in gaming, IT technology and everything in between.

At the BBC site

You can also watch Micro Men here -  a great docu-drama on the rivalry between Sinclair and Curry at that time

Skyrim at it's deadliest!

I haven't really talked about Skyrim on here. It looks like another huge and exquisitely crafted Bethesda RPG - the same thing they've been doing since Morrowind, and precisely the reason I haven't played them since then, cause they're huge time suckers. Still, it's fun to see what people are up to in these games.

So without further ado, go and watch this wacky Skyrim death compilation, and check out more fun and nudity after the break!

A new way of driving on PC

Have a look at the SteelSeries Simraceway SRW-S1.
Quite an interesting product. Nothing we haven't seen before after the Wii and the XBOX wireless steering wheel. Still, I'm quite intrigued and wouldn't mind giving it a try. The price seems reasonable as well.

Zelda ~ The worst of the worst... and then some

Well, I've tried to find really bad reviews of Zelda Skyward Sword but it's just not possible.
When the absolutely worst of the reviewers still give the following comments you can only consider this game an instant classic...

"Once you get the hang of it, normal controllers almost start to feel primitive. I'm playing Skyrim right now, and it feels like my hands are tied behind my back."

"With this latest sequel, the developers have crafted a remarkable adventure that implements some of the most forward-thinking ideas of the series."

"To be successful in combat, reacting to the placement of each enemy’s hands is of utmost importance, and while one becomes extremely adept at taking out the early combatants after a few hours, from start to finish, Skyward Sword asks much of your wrist. When the credits rolled, my hand ached, and it felt great."

Check out who gave the worst scores for Skyward Sword and 'why' after the break...

Something rotten in the realm of Ad-Aware

Well, I suppose it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.
There is no official proof but it seems that the (once) very popular Ad-aware antispyware from Lavasoft has been taken over by the very people it wants to protect you from.
I've used this program in the past, but I guess I'll just have to find a valid replacement from now on...

New Fantasy Co-Op 3PS title

Well, The Lord of the Rings - War in the North is finally here and I had to read several reviews to get a good feel for this game. In short, the co-op is a blast, so, I'm hoping a couple of my online buddies are willing to invest time in this one!  (apparently lan-play is possible so, ... ^_^ )

One of the most Powerful "Portables" !

Have a look at "Big Blue" here...
I like the basic idea - now if someone could just make a custom attached lcd screen for a nicely loaded Shuttle SFF I could really get into this thing ;-)

Smart TV's and the gaming revolution

And you thought PC gaming was becoming a niche market?
Check out the article after the break on what the future might have in store for us.

My personal view? Smart Tv's and their games will just have to slug it out with consoles until the uberstreaming services (a la Onlive) get their act together - after that, the technology won't matter anymore...

Battlefield 3 Tips

Increase your XP and your ranking in this awesome military mayhem simulator ;-)
Just check out the article after the break ...

Mario Kart 7 on 3DS

Well, I played a lot of MK on my DS - every noon at work, together with my (ex-)collegues - the four of us having a riot. Good times, for sure!

The world's first TRUE Battlefield simulator!

Take a really good look at the video after the break and try and imagine the adrenaline boosting experience this surely must be! Frigging awesome and fittingly expensive of course.

As part of a challenge presenters Jason Bradbury and Suzi Perry brought together a team of design experts and an amazing array of technology worth £500,000 ($650,000) to build this one-off creation.

Battlefield 3 BETA Showcase

Well, I sure hope most of these bugs get eradicated ;-))

Check out the rest beyond the break!

Alien Arena

This looks like a good candidate for the next Lanparty - it's a quality mix of such esteemed peers as Unreal Tournament and Quake 3, called Alien Arena.

Medion cashes in on ZTE SKATE

Well well, if it isn't the return of the ZTE Skate!

As usual, these will be available in limited supplies (as of saturday)

Losing anonimity through Gigapixels

Well, you can't hide in a crowd anymore these days.
After the break you'll see how high resolution cameras allow everyone to be identified.
What makes this set of pictures special is that this is a crowd that minutes later took part in the most destructive riots ever in Vancouver. Check out the video and then be amazed after the break.

Movie watching in the future

What's it gonna be like in a DVD-less world ?
Well, this article gives more than a glimpse of that soon-to-be world.

Let's sum it up here already :

Buy your ownership of the movie - pay more if you want to see it sooner (like 30$ for prime content, duh?!)
Watch on all inet devices you own - but if you're not connected forget it,
Put rentals on the backburner (bottom of the foodchain),
Use tablet or smartphone for related content (Bonus commentary,...)
Etc.

To save us from all those gun toting adrenaline busting FPS military shooters coming out this year, Gearbox and Sega will let us relax, sit back and enjoy the rosy peaceful world of ALIENS - Colonial Marines.

I loved the earlier Alien(s) games - especially the Monolith game(s) - I'll be sure to check this one out!
